HIV!! what? AIDS!! in Egypt?!! NO!! THIS IS A MUSLIM COUNTRY, NO AIDS IN EGYPT!!

There is a crisis going on in Egypt that many Egyptians are unaware of. There are thousands of Egyptians living with HIV/AIDS and they have no clue that they have the HIV virus . Many of the people in Egypt do not know how to treat people with AIDS and they do not know how to act towards AIDS patients.

The people in Egypt are very poorly educated on the subject pertaining to AIDS. The AIDS crisis is not an enormous problem let alone a major concern for the government of Egypt at this point in time. But the AIDS crisis is destined to gradually grow over the next few years if a number of things do not change.

For the people living in Egypt the greatest obstacle stopping AIDS prevention is the people’s general ignorance and extremely poor lack of knowledge pertaining to the subject. Although Egypt has a low incident rate at this moment, Egypt is a country at extremely high risk as a result of this ignorance.

HIV/AIDS in Egypt:

9,000: Estimated number of people living with HIV/AIDS by the end of 2007

0.1%: Estimated percentage of adults (ages 15-49) living with HIV/AIDS by the end of 2007

29%: Estimated percentage of HIV cases that occured among women (ages 15-49) by the end of 2007

1000: Estimated number of deaths due to AIDS during 2007

Nice blog. Keep it up. I started writing mine in 2003 when I realised that there was so little online that showed the human, real, day to day face of Egypt. Now I have quite a collection from Egyptians old and young, foreigners living here and experiencing Egypt for the first time...and so on. The variety is enormous and very healthy for everyone who wants to learn about other people. I'm adding you to my list.

This is a very important issue. People should be more aware about different STDs. We think that we live in a conservative society where people only have sex with their married partner, but that is not the case.

Thank you Maryanne. your words are really motivating. i discovered lately that my own self exploration is very much related to the exploration of my surroundings. how i think about them and how i feel. my surroundings are Egypt, the country that i love and feel sorry for. there are many things going on around us that we should really understand. but i believe one should be really careful not to let the negative energy get into ones self.
Keep it up!

Dear Amazing Observer:) you are very right about our conception on people still having sex only with their married partner. It has changed alot during the past years. or maybe it has always been there but we never noticed. Its not related to a certain social class as well. its everywhere.
Thank you for your comment
